Head Coach – Men’s & Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field

Position Summary: The Head Coach is expected to affirm and model the Christ-centered mission of Warner University and the Athletic Department. The head coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ, a vibrant Jesus Christ-follower who cultivates a Christ-centered lifestyle that is contagious. The Head Coach is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of the cheer program as well as the recruitment, retention and academic success of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
 Support the mission and core values of Warner University, Student Life, and the Athletic Department.
 Create, implement and personally live out a spiritual formation plan with a focus on Jesus, for all members of the coaching staff and student-athletes.
 Conduct the program in accordance with NAIA, NCCAA and The Sun Conference regulations – staying current concerning sport policies, rule changes, training techniques, and strategies.
 Encourage and uphold the NAIA Champions of Character Core Values and enforce appropriate behavior during all team practices, contests, and any other team related activities.
 Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and graduate assistants.
 Provide a positive atmosphere that promotes a sense of community and fairness, organization, commitment, motivation, and accomplishment.
 Direct the entire recruiting process – which includes strategic identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of prospective student-athletes that are well qualified for the University and team culture.
 Educate and inform student-athletes of the eligibility process and requirements as well as financial aid
responsibilities.
 Establish and enforce rules of conduct as well as mentor student-athletes to foster spiritual, athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; determine and implement disciplinary sanctions if student-athletes fail to comply with the team, athletic department, and/or University rules and regulations.
 Establish a competitive schedule, and maintain compliance with University guidelines for excused absences.
 Coordinate practice planning, skill development, and design coaching strategies that prepare the team for competition.
 Arrange community service efforts to include all members of the coaching staff and student-athletes.
 Work collaboratively with the Athletic Trainers and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
 Collaborate with Facilities to ensure assigned sport facility is maintained properly for optimal playability,
cleanliness, and safety.
 Manage the operational and scholarship budgets while demonstrating fiscal responsibility.
 Keep accurate records of the following: student-athlete participation, disciplinary issues, academic and individual meetings, statistics, awards, and other general team data.
 Ensure proper reporting of rosters, schedules, scores, and updates to the Director of Athletic Communications as well as reporting any possible violations to the AD.
 Schedule an end of the season team meeting, and/or individual player meetings, within two weeks of the last competition.
 Oversee the purchase, maintenance and collection of team inventory, equipment, and uniforms.
 Collaborate with other University departments: Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Support and Student Life.
 Attend and participate in regular department staff meetings.
 Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Qualifications:
 Supportive of Warner’s mission, vision and core values, commitment to a Christian lifestyle, and
demonstration of character in keeping with biblical models.
 A thorough knowledge of both Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field including all
applicable collegiate rules and eligibility information.
 Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree highly preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience in coaching men’s and women’s cross country and track & field. Previous collegiate head coaching experience highly preferred.
 Experienced track record in college level recruitment required.
 Exceptional teamwork ability as the position necessitates working closely with students as well as other
coaches and staff members in the athletic program.
 Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, in teaching, scholarship,
service, and administration.
 Strong motivational skills to assist athletes in reaching full potential.
 Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
Working Relationships: The Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s and Cross Country and Track & Field is a
member of the Athletics Department and reports to the Athletic Director.
Work Schedule: Work schedule varies greatly depending on the needs of the team.
